Il secolo dell'avvocato

Gianni Agnelli was Italy’s most important industrialist. A well-known figure abroad, he was the head of one of the world’s greatest entrepreneurial dynasties. He was also the much-envied and unreachable model of a certain type of Italian, a minority nowadays; he was elegant, an important publisher, a major art collector and art lover, an avid sportsman. As a soldier, he saw combat in Africa and in Russia and he fought alongside the American troops for Italy’s Liberation. A true protagonist of the “brief century” in which he lived, he was confronted with every type of situation: capitalism and Communism, real war and the Cold War, Fascism and a regime under the Christian Democrats, terrorism, globalization and major economic crises. An extraordinary life, which these images recall and endeavor to reconstruct.

Pier Paolo Pasolini - Cinema in poetry form

The action and set stills that are on exhibit along the outside rail fence and inside the Mole Antonelliana are a tribute to the cinema of Pier Paolo Pasolini and to the set photographers whose snapshots were able to capture the poetry of his films. The dramatic physicality of Pasolini’s film images, the “sacred” corporality of the derelicts and outcasts portrayed, the “barbaric” strength of his style, the poetic and expressive “diversity” of his cinema all come forth strongly in the reproductions that document his evolution as a director.

PICTURES OF SILENCE

This photography exhibit pays homage to the great season of Turin’s silent cinema, its directors, actors and crews that contributed their talent to establishing Turin as the capital of Italian cinema in that era. The exhibit is divided into two parts, which document the extent of the period’s productions, and, at the same time, the wealth of the photographic collection conserved at The National Museum Cinema of Cinema. On the Mole Antonelliana’s outside gate a first group of pictures documents the activities on the sets, offering valuable information on the work behind the scenes of silent films and their mise-en-scène. In addition to the cast, the camera photographs the area of the sets, for the most part inside studios, revealing architectural components, painted backdrops, equipment and the crew. Other snapshots depict directs, actors and the crew taken during a coffee break or in more formal poses, in front of the film studios.

It then looks at the great "classics" like King Kong, Frankenstein, The War of the Worlds, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Blob, and continues with 2001 A Space Odyssey, E.T., Robocop, to conclude with recent hits such as Independence Day, Matrix and The Day After Tomorrow.
