The
collection witnesses the complex process of
filmmaking, from the early 1900s to nowadays.
The great season of the silent film industry
in Torino is represented through a large number
of items, for the most part donated by the
very actors of that time. Worthy of notice
is the collection of sketches by the famous
set designer Decoroso Bonifanti, the costume
worn by the Great Minister in "Cabiria"
and the series of valuablewater-colors painted
by Georges Méliès for some of
his films.
Recent acquisitions have completed the part
of the collection dedicated to sound cinema
featuring costumes (for "Lawrence of
Arabia", "Blood and Sand",
"The Giant"), set sketches (for
"Gone with the Wind", "Doctor
Zhivago", among many others, and a set
of 100 storyboards and drawings from Charlie
Chaplin's works) and props (for Fellini's
"Casanova", "The Empire Strikes
Back", "Aliens").
The equipment and accessories collection consists
of movie cameras, motion-picture projectors
and lab sets witnessing the technical evolution
of film and of the film industry, especially
for what concerns the history of silent film
in Torino. Completing the collection is the
section dedicated to animation film which
includes original drawings and a particular
group of trappings.
